A Good Day

We went to the Rose Bowl this morning to see Rachael, Ron, and Andrew after their 1/2 marathon, which is 13.1 miles. It took them approximately 2 1/2 hours to run that distance (Andrew, a veteran marathoner, would have been faster but he ran with Rachael, who is training for her first marathon on March 19th). They all looked remarkably relaxed and fine given the fact they’d just run 13 miles. We went to breakfast together to celebrate and they were hungry, but not as ravenous as I expected. Each had pink cheeks and clear eyes and was the picture of health. I felt very proud of them.

Our three runners post-race

After breakfast, we stopped by Sarah and Gregorio’s and dropped off the peach pie I baked for what was supposed to be our joint birthday celebration today. I wore a mask and just handed the pie to Nico at the door since Luna’s two close friends came down with the flu yesterday and Luna wasn’t feeling well. Sarah had been in bed all morning, also not feeling well.

Later in the afternoon, Sarah sent me the photos below. Looks like Nico enjoyed his pie and the rest of the family had some too. As Sarah said, “We put a major dent in it.” That made me happy.

Tomorrow is Liz’s birthday. Mine is on Saturday. If all goes well, we’ll celebrate on Saturday when everyone feels better.

But, as it turned out, it was a good day.
