Three Months to Better Health

I just received my blood tests from my doctor and learned that I am at the high end of the pre-diabetic scale. (The rest of my blood tests were excellent, by the way.) So, I have a new job to tackle over the next three months: to get my blood sugar down to a more reasonable level.

I have already started weighing myself every day, taking my blood sugar first thing in the morning, and altering my diet. I know I tend to eat more carbohydrates than I should, and not enough protein, so I’m making a concerted effort to shift that trend. I am also getting a book, The Obesity Code, that Daughter Sarah, the doctor in the family, suggested. (She admitted it was a terrible title, and I agree.) It should be arriving any day. Plus, I’m switching to a sugar substitute and will be trying stevia, monk fruit, and a new one I’ve never heard of called allulose. Plus, apparently, oat milk isn’t good for lowering blood sugar, so I’ll be exploring unsweetened soy, cashew, or almond milk. I have also learned that taking a ten-minute walk immediately following a meal can’t help lower insulin resistance.

I will have another blood test in 3 months, so my goals are clear; now is the time to implement them.

If you happen to know anything about this topic and would like to share your experience or knowledge with me, please know I would appreciate it. My grandmother, Winnie Waugh, developed late-onset diabetes and ended up suffering terribly from it. I want to do everything in my power to avoid repeating that cycle.
