Alison Krauss & Robert Plant: A Nice Way To Bring in the New Year

Two of my favorite singers, Robert Plant from the British rock band Led Zeppelin and Alison Krauss, the bluegrass-country singer who is the 4th top Grammy winner of all time, have just launched their second album together, Raising the Roof. Their first album, Raising Sand, was released in 2007 and won five Grammys in 2009, including Best Album of the Year. I have listened to Raising Sand hundreds of times and have enjoyed it every time. The music is Americana, which is a blend of country, bluegrass, blues, rock, folk, and R&B. Needless to say, I’m excited that these artists have released a second album.

The Tiny Desk Home Concert clip below features three songs from their new album, which was released in November 2021. One of the most striking aspects of both this album and their first is how gently both of these powerful vocalists sing when they perform together. Each can blow the house down with their vocals all by themselves, but together, they navigate with perfectly-tuned restraint. The combination is not only beautiful but also a study in two virtuosos in a respectful collaboration of their talent.

I hope you enjoy these songs as much I do.

Here’s to the love of all kinds of music.

Happy 2022 to you!
