I am sitting here in bed on my last night in Texas for this trip. Tomorrow, I’m headed for Chicago to visit a friend for a few days, and then on Wednesday, we’ll board an Amtrak train and head back to LA. That trip starts at noon on Wednesday and ends at 8 am on Friday morning. Two nights on the train, yahoo!
We have a little compartment called a roomette. No bathroom in those, but that’s okay. There are bathrooms right down the hall and showers in an adjoining car. Also, our ticket includes our meals in the dining car, and the last time we made this trek, we both felt as if we ate night and day. We’ll have our own personal steward for the trip – well, a personal steward for us and the other people in the roomettes around us – and he (or she?) will be there to let us know about meal times and to make our beds up at night and fold them back into chairs in the morning.
To say I’m excited would be an understatement. We haven’t seen our friend in a long time due to Covid so getting to spend time with her will be a treat. Plus, we’re going to the Chicago Museum of Art on Monday, and that’s one of my favorite places in the world. And then on Wednesday, off to the train for our trip back to LA.
I’ll take lots of photos on the way.
I’m headed to bed now. I still have a few things to do to get ready so I’m planning to be up, bright and early.
Nothing like a trip to make life seem brighter.
We’ll talk again tomorrow.
