The Oscars, 2014

The difference between Ray and me: I love the Oscars; he hates them. I find them inspiring; he finds them “snoozeville.”

He is waiting for us to watch True Detective, which I also love. Still, call me a sap, but I love the Oscars. I love seeing storytelling honored, along with all the people who bring those stories to life.

I also find heartfelt Oscar acceptance speeches truly touching. Which include those by Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong’o, for best supporting actor and actress.

I am also very happy that Spike Jones won for best original screenplay for Her since this was a truly original concept.

I haven’t seen the best foreign film, The Great Beauty, but Ray has and he wants to take me to see it tomorrow night. I am happy about that.

Best director, Alfonso Cuarón, for Gravity. I must say that he seems like a very sweet and genuine person.

And I am delighted that Cate Blanchett won best actress.  Her performance in Blue Jasmine was superlative.

Go Matthew McConaughey!   Well deserved, especially coupled with Mudd.  I am happy.

Twelve Years a Slave.  Excellent.  Hurray.

Ray is now happy the Oscars are over.  I am happy we saw every minute.

Now for True Detective.  If you haven’t been following this HBO series, then find it and watch.  It is outstanding.

  1. Chuckling. Have to side with Ray on this one. We cancel our cable from February to August si I’m missing True Detective but CAN’T WAIT for it to be released on Netfliks. Glad to hear it’s as good as the previews looked.

    1. Well, the switching off the cable is probably a very good thing. Easy to get seduced and then spend too much time tv gazing. Yes, I have enjoyed True Detective very much.

  2. For the first time in forever, I didn’t switch on the Oscars last night. I went to sleep instead and I’m proud of myself.
I love to know who’s won and I l.o.v.e. to see the clothes the females wear but last night, I pooped out. 😉

    1. Well, you must have been tired, Tess. You can get the recap on the clothes, winners and speeches. The beauty of the internet.

      1. Yes, the paper is still full of all the Oscar news today. 🙂
