Poem: Screened Porch, Summer Night

Snuggled with my boyfriend on the glider
on our screened-in porch

Warm skin, sweet kisses
playfulness shifted to heavy breathing

A shadow through the French door’s pane
my father’s slow walk and loud cough

Instant rearrangement
clothes, positions

When the door opened
we sat in the dark, holding hands

“Hello, Daddy,” I said.
