Holding My Novel in My Hands: What a Thrill!

I recently had my biggest thrill as an author so far: my paperback of Hope in a Time of Dying arrived in the mail, and I got to hold this long-term dream in my hands. Being the notorious crier that I am, I shed a few very happy tears. Also, I was surprised by a note that daughters Liz and Rachael had added on the first inside page that read:

We thought this day would NEVER come…but here it is: actual paper! With words! In order! And your name on the front!!

You’re actually a published novelist of a real, printed book—and we’re officially RELIEVED.

Now go sign some copies and act famous.

Love,

Liz and Rach (your unpaid editors, hype team, and emotional support team).

Needless to say, this brought on a deluge of tears. The truth is, these two young women have pushed, prodded, cajoled, and practically bribed me to finish and publish this book. Without them, Hope would not be out in the world, and I’d still be lamenting that it was gathering dust in my desk drawer.

How lucky can a mother be to have such a talented support team?

And that’s not even mentioning all of you who contributed to that support by buying and reading my book and being kind enough to write a review. Liz told me last night that I have 18 5-star reviews on Amazon. I thought I had about six. So, there you go—all your hard work showing itself in your support.

I am humbled and grateful.

Thank you, my friends. I could not make this journey without you.

    Hi Len,

I just finished your book and want to let you know what a treat of a read it was. I am sooo glad you got this work out into the world…it’s a great story, rich in relevance and meaning. Well done!! I’m going to see if my local library will find a way to add it to its catalogue, shelving it for others to enjoy. Hope all is well.

  3. Dear Kelly,

Thank you so much! I’m delighted that you found the book worthwhile. I am also thrilled to hear you plan to ask your local library to carry it. That is AWESOME, my friend.

Please consider adding your thoughts on Amazon. I have to have 50 reviews before they will help publicize the book. I am edging my way up, slowly. You can just cut and paste what you wrote and change it to 3rd person. They make no distinction between long and short responses.

    Much appreciated. Hugs, Len
