I am now in bed with a clear plastic patch over my left eye after cataract surgery early this morning. I had a lovely experience with the nurses, the surgeon, and also the anesthesiologist, who delivered the “joy juice.” The truth is that Ray described me as drunk as a skunk after they released me and I slept all the way home and then crawled in bed for more sleep. At almost four pm, I woke up and ventured outside to see what I could see.
I was shocked and delighted with the gorgeous brightness of colors that were everywhere. I called out to Ray, “ It’s a miracle!” I walked around a bit with my patch off and my glasses on, simply marveling at the beauty of the bright blue sky and vibrant green leaves. How lovely! I then took little Ethan for a short walk in his stroller before climbing back into bed. After some soup, Ray brought me coffee and cookies.
I have no memory of anyone taking me to surgery. I do remember waking up briefly during the surgery – I saw only bright lights – and I heard my surgeon’s voice say, “Don’t move!” Next thing I knew, I was waking up in post op, who knows how long later.
As a teetotaler, I’m thinking that “joy juice” packed a rather large punch.
I’m headed to sleep now. I have to travel back tomorrow to the doctor for an eight am post-op check up. Though my vision is not yet clear, the colors are shining through. I couldn’t be happier.

Dear Len, “I can see clearly now “ comes to mind. Congratulations on a successful operation. Grateful you have a wonderful husband to be with you while you rest. Xo Carolyn
