The crickets chirp
with an insistent rhythm
Today was hot, they say.
Tomorrow will be only slightly better
But right now
As the waxing moon glows in the
Star-filled sky
The crickets celebrate
Cool night air

I like it, Len. Even the poem masks my tinnitus perfectly!! So, where does the idiom, crickets, meaning no reply or reaction at all; no spoken or written answer, come from? So curious.
I looked up crickets = silence. Here’s what I learned: “This expression was derived from the cinematic metaphor of chirping crickets at night, signally (otherwise) complete silence.” So, that metaphor came for dramatic purposes both in movies and before that, in radio plays. Who knew? Thanks for posing that question! Hugs.
