Today was clear-skied and sunny and I had the chance to spend some time in our backyard. The rain has left our plants shiny, clean, and full of life. After several weeks of inclement weather, I was so grateful to finally feel the sun’s warmth on my face.
Being outside helps me to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with my inner self. Seeing the variety of textures, colors, and shapes of these plants soothes my soul and I feel nourished simply by their presence.
I’ve always been an outdoor girl. As a little kid, I spend hours outside either up in our pecan tree or down in the soft dirt behind our nandina bushes. I loved my perch up in the pecan tree where I could gaze out at the world; I equally enjoyed my secret spot hidden behind the bushes, where I could play with doodle bugs and enjoy a little time away from my five siblings.
I love this quote by Rachel Carson. It expresses exactly how I feel.
“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature—the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.” – Rachel Carson
Here are a few photos I took today. I think I can venture to say that it might be hard to find happier plants than these.
Wishing you well wherever you are.
