Hello, my friends,
I wrote this poem last night. The line, “If I could love you,” popped into my head, and off I went. I didn’t write this with anything else in mind other than I felt compelled to make it lively and silly.
I am new to poetry and decided to follow my gut. I consider this growth on my part, not wanting or needing to understand exactly what this is about or why I felt compelled to write it.
“Trust your associations,” the poet Billy Collins says. That is what I did here and this poem emerged.
Happy last days of August. Wishing you all well.
If I Could Love You
If I could love you
I’d giggle and dance around the room
I’d hop from one foot to the other
Then race up and down the hall
I’d jump up on the couch and bounce
Then land on the floor and do a somersault
If I could love you
I’d hoot and holler to the heavens
I’d grin from one ear to the other
Then belly laugh until my sides hurt
I’d head to the stage and sing
Then bend down low and take a bow
If I could love you
I’d kiss a butterfly and hug the wind
I’d cross my arms and hug myself
Then scurry to the top of a tree
I’d look far-off and crow
Then climb back down and find you

This is WONDERFUL, Len!
Thank you, Teresa!
It put a smile on my face and in my heart.
