I am sitting here tonight waiting to drive to the airport to pick up my nephew Jim, his wife Karri, and their two kids, Eli and Sophie. They are staying overnight with us before heading off to Uzbekistan tomorrow. They are going to visit an American couple who are temporarily living there because the wife is a translator for the diplomatic corps. The husband will take them on a tour of the country over the next couple of weeks.
Jim and his family are arriving around 10:47 pm and we’ll return them to the airport tomorrow in the early afternoon. They had their required PCR Covid tests today since they can’t enter Uzbekistan unless they’ve had a negative test in the past 72 hours. Part of our reasoning for staying only in our little “pod” over the past while has been to ensure that we don’t inadvertently expose them to any Omicron germs we might have otherwise picked up over the last few days.
I’m looking forward to seeing them even for a few hours. Our last visit was this past May when we drove to Salt Lake City for Sophie’s high school graduation. That’s seven months ago. They usually come for Thanksgiving but didn’t this year. So, it’ll be good to lay eyes on them even if it’s only for a short time.
I am going to close now so I can go rest. I don’t want to be too sleepy when they arrive. Their plane is already 20 minutes late. Hopefully, the airport won’t be too crazy at that time of night, but I guess this is the day lots of people are returning to LA from their Christmas holiday. We will see just how crowded LAX is once we get there.
I hope you’ve all had a lovely day.
Happy Boxing Day to our friends who are Brits.
Talk again tomorrow.
