Our beloved Cordelia had a bout with near-death for two solid weeks, but I am happy to report she’s on the mend. She’s fifteen, so we accept that she is slowing down. But she looks significantly better now and is actually up and walking. That’s a big improvement from when I wrote this poem. The truth is that two kind vets plus antibiotics and steroids have indeed warded off death’s door. Also, our friend and priest, Canon Ian Davies, was willing to tend to her (during Holy Week, no less) while Ray was in Texas, and I had the chance to go see my new little grandson in Covina for a couple of days. Thanks to these exceptionally kind folks, our old girl will see another day in her big yard here in Ojai. Hallelujah.
My old dog lies on the floor I’m not sure if she’ll live or die
Her back legs don’t seem to work anymore
My old dog lies on the floor
Will the new medication ward off death’s door?
Not long ago, she was spry
My old dog lies on the floor
I’m not sure if she will live or die
