On the Eve of Another Year

On this last day before my birthday, let me say a few things that I’ve learned this year. This is certainly not a definitive list, and the items are not placed in any particular order of importance. Many more could easily be added. However, for today, as I get ready to retire for the evening, I will let this be enough.

Love is more important than ever in our turbulent country.

Finding time to spend with family and friends is a gift that keeps on giving, year after year.

Creative efforts, of whatever kind, will nourish and nurture the soul.

Gratitude for life and all its gifts has a way of bringing contentment.

Believing in something greater than oneself offers a chance for help beyond one’s own will.

Participating in a community that encourages positive things, from joy to faith, offers a chance to stay connected with others.

Taking time to be outside and enjoy the sun, moon, stars, and the weather adds a quiet sense of peace.

Listening to music you love can ground you and lift your spirit.

Indulging in a passion—as long as it doesn’t harm your health—can deepen your experience of living.

Surrounding oneself with beauty, whether from nature or from human-made creations, enriches daily life.

Breathing deeply and staying in the moment often helps life feel more manageable.

One’s best, however flawed, is enough.

On that note, I’ll simply say good night and wish you a peaceful and worry-free sleep.
