Home At Last!

Here is our 2 1/2-year-old grandson Ethan’s message to us this morning when we were on the last leg of our three-day driving trip back from Texas to California. Liz and Ethan met us as we drove into the orange grove, and Liz was happy to let Ethan ride the rest of the way while she walked. (That was probably one of the first times she’d had a free minute since we left.) She also suggested (only-half jokingly) that Ethan could spend the night tonight (or anytime) now that we are back. Somehow, I imagine this will be happening in the very near future.

As for the trip, we had a wonderful time. We saw many of our North Texas friends in Sherman and Bonham, as well as some of our Central Texas family in Austin and Bastrop. We also visited with old friends and some family at Ray’s and my reunions, and even had time to work on our Victorian in Sherman at least a little.

Now that we’re back in Ojai, we hope to see Rachael and Andrew on July 4th and 5th, and Sarah, Gregorio, and their family very soon. Additionally, we are looking forward to seeing our St. Thomas the Apostle family in Hollywood over the weekend.

I am grateful to be back home, safe and sound. I drove all but fifteen minutes of the 24 hours on the road while Ray proved himself to be irreplaceable as the food, music, and comfort steward for the trip going and returning. He also kept me abreast of the news while I was driving.

Thanks to all for making our trip so memorable. I feel especially fortunate to have so many people in my life whom I love and who love me in return. For those I didn’t get to see, I hope it won’t be too long before we are back in Texas and can have a good visit. That will be something to look forward to.

Now, I believe it’s time for a shower and bed!
