Today, Sarah talked to her neighbor in South Pasadena, who described the air in their neighborhood as “sepia-colored.” Sarah checked the air quality, which was at a high danger level. So, the Pacheco-Beaty family will remain in Ojai with us for now.
In Covina, where Rachael lives, everyone was encouraged to stay inside.
Luna read that South Pasadena received an evacuation order this afternoon. The winds that have died down are due to kick back up in the next day or so, endangering more of Pasadena and South Pasadena.
To make matters worse, meteorologists predict that San Diego will soon be hit with the same dangerous wind conditions plaguing Los Angeles. They have encouraged everyone sheltering there from LA to find other places to go.
Also, Luna showed me a video of her friend’s house on fire, which her friend’s father shot yesterday. Through the living room window, you could see tall flames engulfing the inside of the house—a terrible sight.
Meanwhile, in Ojai at the orange grove, our electricity was finally turned back on today after 2 1/2 days. We were getting very nervous since we’d received a notice from Southern California Edison that it might be mid-next week before the power was restored. So, we are all feeling happy.
Of course, having all four of my grandkids at the orange grove is a treat. I wish it were due to better circumstances, but it’s wonderful to be together. Still, the children (besides Ethan) are well aware of what’s happening in their home city. They also know there is still a chance their home could be affected. Poor babies.
This is a one-day-at-a-time situation. Hopefully, the predicted winds will not materialize. That might allow life to return to some semblance of normal.
I am grateful for all the first responders and firefighters. What a selfless group of folks they are. My heart and prayers go out to them and all others adversely affected by these terrible fires.
Going to bed now.
