Ray and I have made it to Sicily. We took the bus from the Catania airport – 2 – 4 euros – then walked to our hotel with our backpacks. The temperature was mild, and there was a cool breeze. The young woman at our Arts and Jazz Hotel reception was fluent in English and gave us a map to help us get oriented. She also recommended various restaurants nearby. However, after we both took showers, we decided to eat the food we brought and watch “Operation Petticoat,” a 1959 movie starring Cary Grant and Tony Curtis. It’s dubbed in Italian but there’s no need to understand the words, it’s a comedy with military men and women working together on a submarine. No words needed.
Tomorrow, we plan to have a slow and easy day. We came early to acclimate to the time change before the tour starts on Monday. We also both need a good rest. However, I can’t wait to eat some good Sicilian food. The young woman at the reception said, “Don’t worry, there is good food everywhere. Sicilians love to eat.”
Looking forward to fresh seafood and pasta tomorrow.
