Poem: After the Storm

After the storm, the air was cool and clean
Fallen limbs cluttered the streets and yards
But the thick dust of summer had been washed away
Leaving shiny surfaces and opportunities for new beginnings

After the storm, you and I walked outside
Breathed the fresh new air
Marveled at the different shades of green all around us
Ran our fingers on wet surfaces and smiled at new chances

After the storm, I knew life had started afresh
Old worries and fears had been carried off by the wind
New resolve darted like a hummingbird in search of pollen
Hope smiled as the sun peeked out and spread its golden light
