Only in LA: Listen to Our Lyft Driver’s Excellent Song

Today, Ray and I took a Lyft across town in LA. As we headed off to our destination, we soon were in a lively conversation with our Lyft driver. He was a 20-something young man who told us he was born in Amarillo, Texas and lived there until he was 7. He then moved with his family to Northern Virginia near Washington, DC, where he grew up. When we told him we were originally from Texas, he let us know that he still has relatives in several areas of the state and returns there routinely to see his family.

When Ray asked what brought him to LA, he said that he was a musician. He told us that he lived in LA a few years back but then returned to Virginia. “I’m out here to stay this time,” he said.

“What kind of music do you play?” Ray asked.

“Mostly romantic music. Love songs.”

Over the next twenty minutes, we learned that he is a singer/songwriter and is recording now in LA. He is excited about his prospects. The Lyft job gives him the flexibility he needs to work on his music.

Just before we got out, he told us his name was Roman Santos and that he had a song out called “I Want to Find Someone.” I looked him up on YouTube this evening and found his song.

Before getting out of the car, I said to him, “Good for you for pursuing your dream. Your life will be much more interesting as a result. Don’t give up.”

“Thank you,” he said. “I’d shake your hand if I could reach it!”

A very sweet and sincere young man.

Ray and I listened to his song tonight. It is beautiful.

Here’s to a young man pursuing his dream. How inspiring.
