For the Best

I wasn’t happy with your decision
But I will admit I respected you for it
I see you standing against that gray wall
A blue Dodger’s cap on your head
Your sunglasses in your hand
That look of resolve on your face
I’m going, and it’s for the best, you said.
I looked up the track when I heard the train whistle
Reached for my cell phone for a photo
Give me a big grin, I coaxed, and you flashed your straight, white teeth
Grabbing me up, you twirled me around,
Then, set me down gently and picked up your bag
I’ll text when I get there, you said, and I smiled
After the train departed, I went down to the river to pray
