Poem: The Bentwood Rocker

The bentwood rocker is brown with age
Its thin wooden arms
where human arms have rested
is lighter than the rest of the wood.
The back has five wooden rungs
The seat is woven rush
The chair is sturdy enough to hold a grown man
But more comfortable for a small woman
The rockers have just the right amount of curve
to move easily back and forth
Perfect to rock a small child to sleep or
to rock away troubles or
to rock with contemplation.
I don't expect you to every sit in this chair
You who never contemplate.
