Our Day in South Pasadena

Today we traveled by rail to see Sarah’s family in South Pasadena and had a day-long visit, culminating in Nico’s baseball game. Sarah and the kids met us at the Metro-link station in South Pas this morning and we headed to a local restaurant for some breakfast. From there, we went to Sarah and Gregorio’s home, where we hung out for much of the day, chatting, playing a card game, and watching a spirited game of indoor soccer between Team Nico and Luna versus Team Sonny and Sovahn. From there, we headed to the baseball field and watched the first half of Nico’s baseball game, coached by Gregorio. At that point, we returned to the metro-link so that we could get back home before it was too late in the evening. We learned once at Union Station that Nico’s team came from behind and won their game 11-5, with Nico hitting a triple. So sorry we missed that comeback but very proud of the team and Coach G.

Sarah was eager to see Sonny and Sovahn again since it’s been three or four years since their last visit. Plus Sonny has been our friend since Sarah was two – about forty years – so we share many memories together. We met Sonny at the famous Brimfield, Massachusetts antique market very early in our buying trips for the Chili’s chain where we were the primary vendor for their antique and collectible decor. Sonny was an Asian importer, who fell in love with Southeast Asia after his stint in Vietnam. We became fast friends and have remained so all of these years. Sovahn is his adopted Cambodian son. Unfortunately, Sonny’s wife couldn’t get off work to make the trip. We are missing her.

Below are a few photos of our day.

I am grateful for the love shared between old friends.

Dear Len, Yesterday Carpinteria Beach today South Pasadena. I was inspired to write my 20 Minutes A Day piece about my love for Carpinteria Beach tonight.

South Pasadena holds dear memories for me. I lived there for a short while when I was 24. I still think about those days. I am inspired again to write.

I can see you in your sweet grandson Nico.

    XO Carolyn
