First Full Day in Paris

I am very tired at the moment in the best possible way. It’s 11:19 pm here, and this morning, Ray and I went to the Frank Gehry-designed building that houses the Foundation of Louis Vuitton. There, we attended an extensive exhibit of Mark Rothko’s art. While I’m not a huge Rothko fan, I was heartened by many things: 1) The large number of people who were there to see the building and the art, 2) the gorgeous Frank Gehry design of the building, and 3) the fact that the French bring their children to art museums and the kids are quiet, attentive, and seem to enjoy the experience.

By mid-afternoon, Ray and I arrived at the Louvre. There I had these thoughts: 1) How is it possible that so many masterpieces are housed in one place? 2) Isn’t it amazing just how many people are here to enjoy and appreciate the art, 3) It’s wonderful just how many children are here with their parents and seem to be enjoying the experience, and 4) either art or Paris encourages just the right amount of public display of affection. I have seen at least 10 couples over the day either holding hands, hugging one another, or planting a sweet kiss on the other’s cheek. Happiness abounds.

Tomorrow, we are off to the Pompidou Center for Modern Art. Can’t wait.

Len, sounds like a lovely day and a nice kind of tired. I’m trying to imageine Louis Vitton, Mark Rothko, and the Louvre all ins one day. Love what you say about the children and the pubic displays of affection.

  3. Yes, that first day was a whirlwind of very different art. My camera was dead by the time I arrived at the Louvre. Was disappointed not to have anything but that one photo! Still, quite a treat, all round.
