We are in Paris and staying near the Arc de Triomphe. We took a train from Charles DeGalle airport, made one easy switch, and then walked just a few blocks to our hotel on a quiet street. Ray, an excellent navigator, had our route all mapped out so my only job was to say, “Yes,” when he called out, “This way.” Very nice to have him around!
Our hotel room is small, warm, and has a decent-sized bathroom. We had read reviews that the shower was small, which it is, but just perfect for me and fine for Ray. More importantly, the bathroom is brand new and spotlessly clean, as is the room. We ate at a restaurant this evening that was only a short distance down the street and the food was very good, and there are lots of little cafes nearby. Ray and I usually stay in another part of Paris near the Musee d’Orsay and we were nervous that this area might be too touristy. It may be in the summer but right now, there are some Americans but not all that many. The plane coming over was only about 3/4 full.
This evening, we went out to eat after a nap and the night temperatures were chilly. When we left our hotel it was not raining but after dinner and a stroll, a light rain started on our way back. We realized very quickly that it’s important to keep our umbrellas handy and also put on warmer clothes. We are now back in our cozy room and are very happy to be settled in.
How lovely to be here on this unexpected trip to France at the end of February. I am feeling fortunate indeed.
Here are a few photos so far:

So impressive! Just jetting off to Paris, then onto trains and small cozy hotels. Wh
Thanks, Eileen. We both love this city – we used to come every year – and are delighted to be back once again. Our last time here was five years ago, just before the first SCN trip to the Amalfi Coast. That visit was very brief and we had our family with us. Glad to be back, just the two of us, for our art adventure.
Love this!! Joni Mitchell’s “Free Man in Paris” comes to mind. Relish the time.
Thank you, Kelly. I love Joni and that song and feel pretty much like those lyrics right now!
