#51 – Something That Makes Me Happy – Witnessing the Birth of 7 Babies, Not Counting My Own

I have had the rare honor of being present for the births of my three nieces (daughters of brother George and sister-in-law Sandra) and also all four of my grandkids (well, not Nico since he was an emergency C-section, but I was there before and then immediately after his birth.) Today, just a few years back, I was there for my niece Kathryn Len Leatherwood’s birth. Happy Birthday, Katie!

Being present for a birth is a rare gift. Watching a little person push and propel his/her way down the birth canal and out into the world is a miraculous sight. I can remember vividly the birth of each of these babies and the happiness, hope, and possibility that came with their arrival. Also, I was awed to see the sheer determination of each child as he/she made their way out into the world as if commanded to appear here on earth among us.

Today, just a few years back, I was there for my niece Kathryn Len Leatherwood’s birth. Her mother Sandra and her father George were so happy to welcome Katie into this world. I know they would be so proud of you, Katie, and are looking down from above at you today on your special day. Happy birthday to you, my dear. You add much beauty to this world.

Here’s to life, love, and the miracle of birth. Let us all bow our heads in praise of the sheer beauty of that blessed event.

Here are photos of my seven special “birth” buddies:
