Day 17: Something That Makes Me Happy – Listening to Gregorian Chants

I understand that Gregorian chants aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I can tell you they are mine. Whenever I am feeling a bit stressed or anxious, all I have to do is put on these chants and I will feel myself breathing deeper within seconds and before I know it, I am calm. I listen to this and other recordings by Patrick Lenk quite often, especially in times like now when I believe our world can use as many healing prayers as possible. This is a recording of one of my favorites, “Kyrie eleison,” which is Greek and can be translated as “Lord, have mercy,” which appeared in the Mass in the middle of the 4th century.

The instrumental arrangement and vocals are by Patrick Lenk.

Hearing this music makes me not only calm but also happy.

  1. So peaceful, yes it’s part of our Sunday Mass celebration. You gave me a new reason to appreciate the words. We stayed at a Paradore in Spain years ago. The monks walked the upper open corridor. Listening today brought me right back there.

  2. So happy my love of Gregorian chants brought back a happy memory for you, Eileen. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Len, I listened to this while cooking this morning and loved it. Yes, I felt the calming. I’m keeping it on my computer so I can listen again and again. Thank you for the gift of happiness.

  4. So glad you liked it, Judy. Yes, the calming. Hugs to you.
