Day #9: Something That Makes Me Happy – My Beloved Aaron S. Just Passed the Bar!

Just a few minutes ago, I received the following text: “I hear you need an attorney.”

The message was from one of my closest students, Aaron Shahmaram, whom I started seeing for writing enrichment when he was in middle school. He was a shy boy who was nervous when we first met, but he and I bonded over the book, The Outsiders, and I was especially struck with his sensitive interpretations of the text. I knew then that he was special, but as we got to know each other better over his high school years, I discovered that he was a gentle and loving soul with a discerning mind and a quick wit. I helped him with his college essays and law school personal statement and we have stayed in touch over all of these years.

Tonight’s news is the culmination of all that time of writing together. Aaron will now go on to create a future for himself as an attorney and there is no question in my mind that he will be an excellent one. He has the exact personality for the legal field: a keen mind, a clarity of vision, and a strong moral compass.

He wrote: “Every time someone compliments my writing I think of you and I credit you. Even the shareholders at my firm have given me praise.” Of course, I’m not surprised that he is receiving kudos for his writing. He has been synthesizing information very well from that first book we read together and I’m sure his legal arguments are clear, concise, and convincing. Still, I am touched that he thinks of me. We became friends over all those years and nothing makes me happier than seeing him succeed.

Hooray and hallelujah, Aaron! I am so pleased for you. I know there is some serious rejoicing going on at the Shahmaram household this evening. I am there with you in spirit and am so happy for you. Big hugs to you and your family. I know they are feeling very proud. I am feeling very proud too!
