I wrote what is below last night. We arrived later than expected and I was too tired to post. I have included a photo of part of the roof that went on today. So far, so good.

I am sitting on the plane heading to Texas. We are going so we can be there while we get a new roof on our Queen Anne Victorian. This roof is a long time in coming, so this is a happy occasion.
Our original roof was red, but we weren’t able to find red shingles and the red metal roof we discussed with our roofer was standing seam, which was not the aesthetic we were looking for. After much deliberation, we settled on an IKO Armourshake architectural shingle in shadow black. This was not our first choice, but it is the only choice that doesn’t require a several-month delay. Apparently, many roofing colors are in short supply. Since it has already been several months since the hail storm that damaged our 1894 metal roof to the point of no return, we felt compelled to proceed. So, again, this is a happy reason to be coming to Texas.
The roofers were there today and have stripped off the old roof and replaced some of the decking. We will arrive at midnight and they will return at 7 am to descend upon us, ready to ascend to some serious heights on our 12/12 pitch roof. We want to be there to watch the process and field any questions along the way. After all, a roofing event on this house hasn’t occurred since 1894.
We are a bit nervous about the color choice, but, as I said, we spent a lot of time and consideration before making this decision. However, a paint color on a shingle sample can look one way, while a whole roof with that color can look quite another. So, we’re hopeful we’ve made the right choice. We may have to adjust the house color over time if the roof is just too dark, but we are crossing our fingers we won’t have to do that any time soon.
Tomorrow is the day we will see. Wish us luck.

Thank you, Tommy! We’ll see tomorrow how the whole roof looks.
