Trip to the California Cactus Company in Pasadena

Today we went out to look for various cacti out in Pasadena.  This place is filled with all sorts of varieties, plus various types of bonsai trees.  Here are some pictures:

These do not occur naturally.  The flowers have been grafted on.

                               Tons of varieties of cacti.

This is a 100 year old plant that was made a bonsai 38 years ago.

A heart made of tiny cacti.

This is one of those places that has a little bit of everything when it comes to cactus.  It is a family owned business and is fun to visit.  If you find yourself out in Pasadena and want to see more cacti and bonsai than anywhere besides Huntington Gardens, then this the place!

The prices are not cheap, however, for the real prizes.  That old bonsai is $4500.

  1. As a previous ‘craft-type’ person, I understand how some buyers cannot understand the cost of products offered: TIME, associated work to convert / arrange / sow. Only parties who understand what is involved will become buyers. Others will thumb their noses at what they do not understand.

Wonderful pictures, Len. Thanks for sharing yet again something I wouldn’t have had opportunity to learn / hear about. Interesting.

    1. Yes, Tess, there will be fewer buyers for those fine old bonsai. But, for some, those are worth the money. The owner said she sold one the other day for $10,000.

A lot of the smaller plants are completely affordable. It’s just the very special ones that command those big bucks.

Glad to give you a little taste of California.

  2. I’d love this place.

    1. If you love cacti or even just beautiful plants, then, yes, you would love it!

Huntington Gardens will have blooming cactus and succulents soon ` maybe March/April. I hope to get a chance to see them this year.

    1. Oh, I’m going to have to make a plan to head out there, too, especially if the cactus will be blooming. I love Huntington Gardens!
