We watched the Olympic television coverage today and it was inspiring to see Oscar Pistorius, the South African runner who is a double amputee with carbon – fiber blades instead of lower legs and feet, come in second in his qualifying heat. This allows him to compete tomorrow in the 400 meter race. He is the first Paralympian to compete in the Olympics, so that is a feat in itself. But qualifying for the big race tomorrow demonstrates that he’s at the Olympics to truly compete, not simply show that people with disabilities deserve to be there. He made himself even more endearing when he teared up talking about how much support he has in his life. This man is the epitome of a true Olympian. No doubt about it!
